Taking Responsibility for Your Emotional Wellbeing
Cause No One Else Can Do It For You
It's a common saying that goes "you can't rely on anyone else to do it for you." And this is especially true when it comes to finding success and helping yourself. There are people who will support you and provide resources, but the hard and fast truth is that your survival is your responsibility and awareness is the first step in overcoming any challenge. If you're an independent adult, then you need to take charge of your life and make things happen.
We may be more likely to take responsibility for our physical wellbeing, for example, by eating healthy foods and exercising regularly, than our emotional wellbeing. But why is it that we often neglect taking responsibility for the most important aspects of our lives?
It’s harder to admit we are struggling mentally. And once you do admit it, it’s very challenging to find resources that fit within our means…plus, if you are new to the awareness, you may still be learning how to prioritize it in our life. It’s common to get that prioritization wrong in the beginning…like believing you don’t have the finances to get help for stress and anxiety…these things cost money and you may feel like you’re already barely getting by financially. Until of course the new iphone comes out? Not saying we are all like this, but take a serious moment with yourself and ask if it comes down to finances, what do you have to do to support your mental health the way you prioritize food and nutrition.
The first step to taking responsibility for your mental health is acknowledging that your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Just like you would schedule a doctor’s appointment for a physical ailment, you need to do the same for mental health matters.
Taking responsibility is not always easy, but it is essential. So if there is one thing you should not leave in the hands of someone else, it is the initial quest to find the support you need. Once you get yourself on a path, only then can you begin to access the resources and support you need to progress, grow and ultimately achieve wellness and balance in your life. So don't wait around for things to happen, make them happen. And most importantly, remember that you are the only one who can do it for yourself.
This doesn't mean that you can't ask for help when you're struggling. In fact, admitting that you need assistance is a strength, not a weakness. But it's important to remember that no one else can live your life for you. You are the only one who knows what's best for you and what will make you happy.
So if you're ready to take responsibility for your life and emotional well being, here are a few tips to get you started:
- Acknowledge that you are the only one responsible for your mental health.
- Realize that taking responsibility for your emotional wellbeing is not always easy, but it is essential if you want happiness and balance.
- Get started by taking small steps. You don't have to make huge changes all at once. Just start with one thing and go from there, like finding the right mentor, coach or therapist.
- Remember that you are not alone. There are people who care about you and want to help you, but ultimately, the responsibility lies with you.
